Protest the Hero-Fortress

The second full length album by math/metalcore band Protest the Hero is one of the best releases from the metal genres in years. It is full of melody, a balance of clean vocals and beautiful ear bashing screams. The young rockers from Canada, can really create an atmospheric feeling, though it seems a short visit to another world.

Unlike Coheed & Cambria, this concept album centering around goddess worship, is not a direct story but more of your take on the lyrics meaning. This invites the listener to create their own story with the lyrics. The opening song 'Bloodmeat' is rich with screaming and a cool vocal styling not to be forgotten. Though the tracks in between it and Sequoia Throne might be skipped over after a few listens, Sequoia Throne releases the most melodic song on the album. Similliar, 'Wretch' combines a melodic vocal with a thrashing beat. 'Wretch' and 'Sequoia Throne' definitly stand out. The other songs are well crafted though. The closing Goddess Bound/Goddess Bound are a fine pairing and another comparison to Coheed & Cambria can be drawn with their closing metal/alternative rock smacks The Willing Well and The End Complete.

4.5/5 Excellent

OK, here is some updates:

Coheed & Cambria's new single 'Feathers' will premiere on MTV2 Unleashed next week. Keep your eyes peeled! (Soundwave, an australian tour, has been canceled by the way. Coheed was supposed to be headlining. Sorry aussies!)

Green Day will be releasing a new album this year. They should be in the studio right now....I don't know if you heard Green Day's strange release under the title Foxboro Hot Tubs (check myspace), but it sounds pretty fun.

Guns n' Roses album that has been in hell for fourteen years, may see the day this year. Axl seems to have turned something into the record label Geffen, but they can't agree on how to market it. I don't think they need much marketing, I'm sure anyone who cares about 'Chinese Democracy' knows about it.

Two recent releases you need to listen too is metalcore band Protest the Hero's sophomore album 'Fortress', and The Mars Volta's aggressive 'Bedlam in Goliath'.

50th Grammy Awards...Feb 10.

Def Leppard is releasing a new LP this year and they will embark on a tour. The working title is 'Songs from the Sparkle Lounge'.

Stone Temple Pilots reunite! Expect shows this summer. Whether or not a new album will be forthcoming is uncertain.

Issac Brock of Modest Mouse, states he is writing new material for the next album beginning this year. Here is a quote from Brock..."Life is too f**king short, to play or hear Free Bird." That has nothing to do with the new album, but it's still funny.

Franz Ferdinand...the band that quickly released two albums (2004 & 2005) then took a breath. Reportedly, they have finished work on the album. Atleast, that is what theage.com reports.

Links:
http://www.coheedandcambria.com
http://www.cobaltandcalcium.com
http://www.meetthefeathers.com
http://www.greenday.com
http://www.franzferdinand.co.uk
http://www.myspace.com/modestmouse
http://www.stonetemplepilots.com
http://www.gunsnroses.com
